Spatial (in)justice in pandemic times: bottom-up mobilizations in dialogue

چکیده
Marginal urban areas already subject to unequal distribution of welfare facilities and socioeconomic opportunities were badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Taking from a spatial justice perspective, this paper looks at Milan Rio de Janeiro, two very differentand yet similar cities concerning their disadvantaged communities, focusing on impacts virus, consequent bottom-up mobilizations collective actions in poor neighborhoods. It finally draws possible lessons learn examples

Spatial patterns of fixation : bottom - up effects
The choice of where to direct one's saccadic eye movements demands the integration of bottom-up image salience with top-down information of goals, motivation and past experience of reward. We previously described an eye movement search task that offered control of the subject's top-down drive for saccade choice (Chukoskie, et. al. SFN 2005). Here, we manipulate the visual image to similarly con...
متن کاملUp or down in space? Uniting the bottom-up versus top-down paradigm and spatial ecology
Why is the World green what keeps herbivores, and herbivorous insects in particular, from consuming all of their food? When this question was first posed, the relative importance of top-down and bottom-up effects was hotly disputed. While modern ecologists may agree that impacts from several different directions will affect local insect densities, the bottom-up vs top-down jargon seems to be st...
متن کاملSelective spatial attention modulates bottom-up informational masking of speech
To hear out a conversation against other talkers listeners overcome energetic and informational masking. Largely attributed to top-down processes, information masking has also been demonstrated using unintelligible speech and amplitude-modulated maskers suggesting bottom-up processes. We examined the role of speech-like amplitude modulations in information masking using a spatial masking releas...
متن کاملNon-local spatial redundancy reduction for bottom-up saliency estimation
In this paper we present a redundancy reduction based approach for computational bottomup visual saliency estimation. In contrast to conventional methods, our approach determines the saliency by filtering out redundant contents instead of measuring their significance. To analyze the redundancy of self-repeating spatial structures, we propose a non-local self-similarity based procedure. The resu...
متن کاملBottom-up regulation of a pelagic community through spatial aggregations.
The importance of spatial pattern in ecosystems has long been recognized. However, incorporating patchiness into our understanding of forces regulating ecosystems has proved challenging. We used a combination of continuously sampling moored sensors, complemented by shipboard sampling, to measure the temporal variation, abundance and vertical distribution of four trophic levels in Hawaii's near ...
